Enjoyable as a refreshingly tangy, bubbly drink, it doubles as a blank slate for creative mixologists to adorn with exotic garnishes. From espresso beans to a classic lime or lemon wedge, the vodka soda can be dressed up to tastefully fit any occasion.
The vodka soda dates back to the 18th century, after Schweppes began mass-producing soda water in 1783. The Swiss, English, and those lucky enough to have access to the bottles immediately took to mixing their favorite spirits with the fizzy beverage. When exports began in 1820, the tradition spread across the globe.
